I couldn’t resist sharing another powerful way to use a tilt/shift lens. To create this image of Split Bow Arch at Big South Fork National Recreation area I used a 24mm tilt/shift lens.
I used the shift function to take three images one each, shifted right center and left, respectively. Once back on the computer I stitched them together with the panorama tool in photoshop.
If you are interested in learning more about composition, using lenses creatively, and making prints please consider joining us for the Big South Fork Fall Photography Workshop, October 26-29th, 2017 that I will be leading with Ron Rice.

More than 20 years ago I stepped onto Couchville Cedar Barrens and saw the Tennessee Coneflower for the first time. Geoff Roach, who at that time worked for The Tennessee Chapter of The Nature Conservancy, led me on the short hike. I was awestruck!! There were hundreds of these endangered flowers growing in one location!! I photographed them everyday for nearly a month. in 1999 one of the images was chosen as the cover of the Bell South Telephone book for the state. Now the flower has been delisted. There are a lot fewer flowers now than there used to be.
I still return at least once a year to photograph the glades and the flowers. Here is the phone book cover and a few images that I made on the 8th of June 2016.

After wading up a stream for a 100 yards or so I came upon this scene. It is moments like these that make it clear to me that I am living the dream!

It is amazing to me how light can transform. This wonderful rock formation came alive in the extraordinary light this summer on a recent hike at Big South Fork National Recreation Area.
