One of my primary motivations, as a photographic artist is to share the beauty I find in nature. It is interesting, that even with sharing as one of the goals, the actual creation of my art is ultimately a solitary pursuit….

On a recent trip to Texas, I spotted these islands of bluebonnets that appeared to be floating just above a sea of yellow and green. The Texas Dandelions made a wonderful “ocean” for my “Bluebonnet Island” composition. It is always exciting to me to find subjects in nature that can be portrayed literally and in a totally unrelated way simultaneously. In this case a field of Texas Bluebonnets and Texas Dandelions becomes islands of blue floating in an ocean of yellow.

“In some mysterious way woods have never seemed to me to be static things. In physical terms, I move through them; yet in metaphysical ones, they seem to move through me.” ~John Fowles
Light filters through the forest in the Pacific Northwest….
For me the forest holds an endless fascination….a mysterious invitation. I created this image a few years ago in Washington State.

As a photographer I am always in search of that moment when the light brings a magical dimension to the image I have composed. Whenever these elements come together I get just as excited as when I began this artistic journey to create images of nature with my camera many years ago….
